#newbies
is...a fun place to chat.
More importantly, it is a question and answer forum, whos main mission is to introduce new users to the world of Internet Relay Chat.
Every IRC network has a channel called #newbies. Dalnet #newbies is not the original, but it is the best. Just take a look at what this, satisfied user had to say.
Dalnet #newbies is better for several reason:
- It's DALnet.
Efnet and Undernet are bigger but Dalnet provides services that the big 2 just can't match. Including Registered nicknames and channels. If it's your nick, you get it back, everytime. If it's your channel, you get ops, everytime.
- It's rnt.
#newbies founder rnt, believes it should be Fun, Informative, and Clean. With these goals in mind, he has hand picked a large group of operators. These are all individuals who share rnt's vision of what #newbies should be. To find out more about what rnt has to say about #newbies, check out the Founder Speaks!
- It's the Ops.
The number of #newbies operators has grown to mroe then 60, and the list is still growing. This ensures that there is nearly always a channel op onboard, to help.
- It's Fun.
People from all walks of life, all around the globe, have discovered that #newbies is just a great place to chat. Many people return to newbies regularly, long after they've learned their way around IRC. It is a group of great people who enjoy each others company.
- It's Informative.
The ops are here to help. Don't ever say "Can I ask a question?", on #newbies, JUST ASK! Some questions probably can't be answered, like, "Why does the IRS take so much of my paycheck?" or "What happened to my other green sock?". But if it is an IRC question, rest assured, the ops will almost always get it right.
- It's Clean.
The ops all believe, as rnt does, that abusive or vulgar individuals should be shown the door immediately. Every effort is made, to make #newbies an environment that is suitable for all family members. The IRC networks are open to the world, and users can't be screened at the door, but when appropriate, the ops won't hesitate in kicking someone out, and banning them from returning.
